Brotte
La Grivelière Côtes du Rhône AOC 2009
Alcohol:
13.8%Côtes du Rhône is overpopulated with Thrush birds, or Grive in French, that devour the grapes in the vineyards when ripe.
Vineyards:
Produced from a blend of grapes cultivated by several partner winegrowers in south-central France along the Rhône River. The soil varies but is predominantly clayey and calcareous. Each varietal is trained according to what is most beneficial to the grapes; the Grenache and Mourvedre are planted using the gobelet training method, whereas the Syrah and Carignan utilize the cordon de royat system. The vineyard elevations vary from 20-50 meters.
Technical Data:
- pH: 3.70
- Acidity: 3.1 grams/liter
Winemaking:
Harvested in early September, the grapes were immediately destalked and crushed upon reception at the winery. Each varietal was vinified separately. Fermentation took place over 5 days in concrete tanks at controlled temperatures (Grenache & Mourvedre: 28°C/ Syrah & Carignan: 26°C). For 15 days, the wine was left in contact with the skins with twice daily pump-overs and delestages performed. Malolactic fermentation occurred. Aged in a combination of concrete tanks and large oak casks for 6 months. Filtered prior to bottling, the wine was cellared an additional 18 months before release.
Tasting Notes:
Well-balanced with aromas of red fruits and spices with mild hints of vanilla and earth. Rich, full-bodied and round in the mouth. The finish is long with mild tannins.
Food Pairings:
A perfect wine to enjoy with everyday meals from grilled red and white meats to simple pasta dishes.
