Mara Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC

Named after the Cesari family matriarch, Mara is vinified using the Valpolicella’s exclusive Ripasso technique. Fresh wine was refermented on the Amarone pomace to create a smooth, elegant wine with an aromatic bouquet of ripe cherries. Mara Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso boasts a persistent, warm finish with round tannins after aging in large Slavonian oak barrels for 12 months.

A well-balanced and accessible red, with deep, dark notes of smoke and espresso underscoring the chopped cherry and dried fig flavors. Light, creamy tannins emerge on the fresh finish, which echoes with hints of orange peel and bay leaf.

James Suckling - 93 pts

Here’s a Valpolicella Ripasso that reveals such complexity on the nose — from oyster-shell to forest-floor notes and preserved lemons —before you even notice the bulwark of dried blackberries and blueberries. The medium-to full-bodied palate has Bordeaux-like polish and effortlessness, easily rolling through layered blue fruit and spice undertones. Excellent value. Drink now or hold.

This offers a slightly less formal and austere expression compared to Cesari’s Bosan. Perfect for chicken or pork roast, this delivers fresh acidity beyond the tones of cherry, cola, leather and barbecue spice.
