Winemaking:
Manually harvested in early April, the grapes were received at the Ruca Malen winery where the best bunches were selected by 4 women. After the inoculation of selected yeasts, fermentation lasted 8-10 days at a temperature of 26-28°C in stainless steel tanks. A 21-day maceration period followed with 4 pump-overs per day during the first 4 days. During those 4 days, 2 delestages were carried out as well. The wine was left to rest for 21 days before the free run wine was separated from the pressed wine. Malolactic fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks. Aging took place over 10-12 months in oak barrels, 85% French and 15% American, of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd use.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of black fruit, specifically blackberry, and dried fruit, such as figs, fill the nose. Peppery notes emerge as well. On the palate, it is ripe, round and elegant with sweet tannins and a vibrant acidity. The finish is long and persistent, displaying chocolate notes and elegant vanilla oak flavors.
Food Pairings:
An excellent accompaniment to game prepared with spicy sauces and wild mushrooms.

Wine Spectator
Quite toasty, offering coffee and black licorice snap notes up front, followed by dark fig and boysenberry fruit flavors. The toasty edge resumes on the finish. Drink now.
Wine Advocate
Deep purple color; spice box, incense, violets, black cherry; some elegance, needs concentration.
Wine Enthusiast
Compact on the bouquet, with a pointed combo of boysenberry and blackberry aromas. The palate is full, with plenty of acidity and stuffing. Flavors of blackberry, olive, fig and chocolate are likable and the finish is loud and powerful in typical South American style. Drink now through 2012.
