13.6%“Yauquen” is a word from the Mapuche language that means “to share a drink with a friend”. This is the entry-level, value line of wines produced by Ruca Malen.
Vineyards:
The Malbec grapes are grown in the Uco Valley where the soil is sandy and sandy loam, rocky with very good drainage and poor in organic matter. Drip irrigation was implemented during planting in 2001. Cabernet Sauvignon plantings are located in both the Agrelo and Uco Valleys at altitudes upwards of 1000 meters above sea level. The Agrelo Valley has deep silty soil, rocky in depth, with good drainage. These vines were planted in 1990 using the vertical trellising system.

Winemaking:
Each varietal matured at a different time and was harvested accordingly. The first round of Malbec was picked in mid March, while the balance was harvested in mid-April. Harvesting of the Cabernet Sauvignon was carried out in late March. Upon reception at the winery, a pre-fermentative maceration took place at 8°C for 5 days with 1 pigeage per day. After the inoculation of selected yeasts, fermentation was carried out over 8-10 days at temperatures of 24-26°C in stainless steel tanks. The wine was left in contact with the skins for the following 12 days with 4 daily pump-overs during the first 4 days. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. About 20% of the wine was then transferred into oak barrels to age for 6 months before being blended with the unoaked wine and bottled.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is spicy with ripe cherry and plum aromas. It is packed with fresh, sweet tannins and the vibrant acidity maintains a good balance. Long and persistent finish enhanced by fruity notes and mild toasted hints.

Pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, pasta dishes prepared with tomato-based sauces, and empanadas.
