Dominio de Tares
Spain
Dominio De Tares was founded by a group of young visionaries at the turn of the millennium. They recognized the potential of the indigenous Mencía grape that flourishes is the region of Bierzo. The winery is located in San Roman de Bembibre, in the Bierzo Alto (Upper Bierzo), in the northwestern part of the León province, bordering Galicia. The region itself received D.O. status in 1989. The Mencía vines range in age from 40 to 100 years. De Tares also produces a small amount of white wine from a 20 year old vineyard of Godello. The vineyards are worked by hand and they do not use herbicides. Yields are kept low to optimize the quality of the wines.
