Ruca Malen
Argentina
Founded in 1999, Ruca Malen is a fairly new, forward-thinking winery resting in the picturesque foothills of the Andes Mountains in Mendoza, Argentina. It is the result of a partnership between former Bodegas Chandon-Argentina CEO Jean-Pierre Thibaud and Burgundian-born Jacques Louis de Montalembert, both of whom shared the vision of creating the highest quality wines of Argentina. This vision of greatness pervades every step of the production process at Ruca Malen, with the highest standards applied to the vineyards, harvest, winemaking, and cellaring. No costs are spared and no detail is too mundane in their commitment to quality. Ruca Malen produces limited lots of wines originating in exclusive and selected vineyards that are closely managed by the winery – either through ownership or long-term leases. Winemaker Pablo Cuneo (formerly of Terrazas) directs the entire winemaking process, which benefits from a modern facility that is equipped with the latest technology, including a temperature- and humidity-controlled, 700-barrel capacity cellar. The name “Ruca Malen” translates from the Mapuche Indian language as “the house of the young girl.” It derives from a local legend of the romance between a god and a fearless, beautiful woman.
