Altos del Cuco is produced in the region of Jumilla, south of Valencia, in eastern Spain. Characterized by arid climatic conditions, the high altitudes provide relief from the warm temperatures. The vines also benefit from optimal exposures and soil rich in limestone, resulting in low yields of concentrated berries.
Named for the stone shelters that can be found throughout the vineyards in this region. The “Cuco” serve as places of refuge for vineyard workers. They provide warmth in the winter and shade from the beating sun during the summer months.
