Barranc dels Closos Blanc

Located near a gorge, or barranc in the Catalan language, Barranc dels Closes is produced from certified organic vineyards by the CCPAE authority. Notes of white currants and raisined fruit capture the nose. This medium-bodied wine has a creamy texture and possesses good acidity and a lively personality. Vinified entirely in stainless steel for maximum fruit expression. Enjoy with vegetable-based dishes and delicately prepared seafood.

“Garnacha blanca blended with little pedro ximénez, this is an intense wine with a robust structure filled with flavors of peaches, pears and flowers. The region’s licorella soil comes through, translated into subtle mineral flavors. Spicy and refreshing.”

Garnacha blanca, which makes up 90 percent of this blend, shows its nutty side in a rich character that builds on the wine’s spice and white fruit flavors. It’s a big wine, but the acidity keeps in tense and fresh, ready for a chicken stew.

Has some yeasty notes and aromas of dried straw and flowers around a core of white fruit. The medium-bodied palate is quite tasty, has good acidity and is pleasant and easy to drink.

Nectarine and white peach aromas are pithy, pointed and briny like sea water. This feels citrusy and pulpy, while zesty citric flavors of grapefruit, scallion and green herbs finish with residual pithy briny notes.

This big white shows density and focus. Rich on the palate, this offers pear, fennel, ginger and grapefruit flavors, backed by muscular acidity that maintains freshness through the spicy finish. Drink now through 2018.

Raisin and prune aromas indicate full ripeness, while jammy fig notes come in later and confirm this wine’s warm-vintage DNA. A clampy palate with big tannins offers inky flavors of plum and prune, while an oaky concentrated finish feels jammy. Drink through 2018.

Dusty notes and beeswax aromas dominate this wine. Staunch acidity,…tastes of white pepper, grass and waxy stone fruits. Briny notes and citric acidity on the finish are offset by tropical accents of papaya and melon.

The 2011 Barranc del Closes is a blend of 50% Macabeu, 30% Garnacha Blanca, 15% Pedro Ximenez and 5% Muscat grown on slate soils (llicorella) and fermented in stainless steel without seeing any oak. It has a clean, intense bouquet of lime, fresh pineapple and fresh grapefruit with a faint hint of spice. The palate is well-balanced with a waxy-textured entry. There is fine acidity here, with a potent thread of lemongrass imparting vigour and intensity. This is a very fine entry-level white. Drink now-2017.

Mostly neutral aromas include a note of peach and citrus, and a hint of butterscotch. The body is full and the texture is good, while the overall balance is on the money. Creamy flavors of vanilla, coconut cake, toffee, and baked apple finish similarly, with some heat and burn.

This plush white offers broad flavors of pear, almond, candied ginger, and orange peel. The generous texture is supported as much by tannins as acidity. This distinctive wine would match well with many meat dishes. Drink now through 2014. 3,175 cases made

The scent of gunpowder, more common in Sancerre than Priorat, emerges out of this stony blend of garnacha blanca (50%) with macabeo, pedro ximenez and a few drops of muscat. It’s a cool white, alive with acidity that points up its almond flavor and that firm minerality. The perfect bottle for a fish curry.

Light yellow, with a hint of pink. Understated initially, but opens to show spicy citrus and pear skin aromas, along with dried flowers and herbs. Musky yellow plum and orchard flavors display good depth but lack energy. A subtle lemon rind note adds welcome lift to the finish. Needs rich food.

The 2007 Barranc dels Closos White sports an expressive nose of candle wax, honey, and mineral. On the palate it has complex dry flavors, a viscous texture, excellent depth, and a lengthy pure finish. Drink it over the next three years.
