Viberti La Volta Barolo Riserva DOCG

A limited-production Barolo Riserva produced only in the best vintages from the estate-owned La Volta vineyard.  A big wine with elegant notes of preserved fruit accented by aromas of spices, underbrush, and licorice.  Extensively aged in tini for 46 months, followed by 3 months in stainless steel tanks, and finally cellared in bottle at the winery for 12 months, this wine will gracefully age over the next 12+ years with proper storage.

Beautiful dense fruit to this 2010 with plums and hints of walnuts. Full body and round and silky tannins. Pretty and delicious.

Dense and full-bodied, this delivers sensations of asphalt, menthol, grilled herb, mature black cherry and game. Ripe and forward…firmly knit tannins give it a solid backbone that will allow it to age for several more years.

Wine & Spirits - 92 pts - Year's Best

A traditional style of Barolo, aged for close to four years in large oak vats, this holds its tension in its fine nebbiolo tannins. The fruit itself is translucent red, scented with rose and violet, lasting on a frame of tannic spice. This is firm young Barolo, built to age a decade or more.

The 2006 Barolo Riserva La Volta shows etched, tertiary aromas of beef jerky and leather. You also get more structure and richness to broaden its appeal. I do like the mouthfeel: It’s rustic and tight but it has legs for a few more years of aging. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020.

This shows beautiful touches of cured meat, dried berry, ginger, rosemary oil and cigar box. It is soft and succulent on the finish, but the solid tannins hold it together very nicely.

Rich and concentrated, this red evokes eucalyptus and underbrush notes, complemented by cherry and medicinal herbs. A hint of tar peeks through as this firms up on the finish. Best from 2012 through 2028.
