Legado Carmenère

De Martino’s Legado range showcases specific varietals and their cultivation in the best terroirs of Chile resulting in wines that reflect the true character of each region. The Santa Ines vineyard is located in the Maipo Valley. This wine’s bouquet is filled with fresh raspberries and cherries, hints of white pepper and plum, all balanced by sweet aromas of vanilla. A pleasant acidity coats the palate with well-structured tannins followed by a long, red fruit-filled finish. A smooth wine that is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

The 2013 Carmenere Legado Reserva is from Maipo, and aged in used French oak barrels for one year before bottling. It shows ripe black fruit and some dark chocolate aromas, quite mainstream Carmenere. There are some herbal flavors that lend a slight bitterness, but at the same time give some freshness

Smoky cherry and blackberry on the nose, with hints of cracked pepper and licorice adding interest. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering gently sweet dark berry flavors and a hint of gaminess. Closes with lingering sweetness, no obvious tannins and a late kick of peppery spices.

This shows the varietal’s spicy, earthy aromas in a fresh way. The mouthfeel is crisp, while herbal, peppery flavors blend properly with the spice and plum notes typical of Carmenère.

Aromatic and inviting, with notes of incense and grilled herb leading to mulled black cherry, cassis and dark fig notes, as moderate grip adds weight to the lengthy finish. Drink now.

The 2009 Legado Reserva Carmenere was sourced from a single organically farmed vineyard. Aromas of cigar box, herbs, lavender, blueberry, and cherry cola. The wine should be consumed near-term while it retains its fruit.

Herb, toasty oak, mineral and berry aromas precede a snappy, crisp sort of palate that’s showing mostly herbal, toasty flavors of red berry and plum, with a dry, peppery finish.

Deep violet color. Cherry-vanilla, cola and blackberry preserves on the nose, with complicating floral and spice nuances. Supple, deeply concentrated dark berry liqueur flavors are framed by velvety tannins and show a strong oak influence supported by fruit. The finish repeats the cola and spice notes and lingers with very good tenacity. Emphatically modern and drinkable now.
