Lusco Albariño

Ten hectares of vineyards are dedicated to the production of this wine. The rich bouquet is comprised of aromas of orange, grapefruit, and pear, and mineral qualtities. A smokey note appears on the back end. Full in flavor, yet crisp with fresh citrus and stone fruit bursting onto the palate. It is lush and powerful with a bracing acidity, followed by a slightly creamy, persistent finish. The winery’s namesake is aged on the lees for 6 months in stainless steel and in bottle for 4 months. Enjoy with grilled seafood and shellfish or cream-based pasta dishes within a few years of the vintage.

Light, airy and leesy on the nose, this is more complex than most everyday Albarinos. Additional aromas of vanilla wafer, acacia, honeydew and minerals lead to a clean-flowing palate. Minerally peach and nectarine flavors show a touch of almond-skin bitterness on the finish.

Crisp but also … leesy on the nose, this offers enticing pear and apple aromas in front of a fresh, snappy, pure palate. Flavors of nectarine, green plum and citrus fruits finish linear, with cutting acidity and a stony quality. Drink through 2015.

Smoky, briny notes give this firm white a distinctive profile, adding interest to the grapefruit and chalky flavors. Offers firm acidity and a lean racy texture. Drink now through 2015.

The 2011 Lusco undergoes a bunch-by-bunch selection with lees aging for six months. There is a hint of melted candle wax on the nose, touches of papaya and melon developing with aeration. The palate is simple with overt pear and lychee notes; seguing into an uncomplicated, stem ginger finish that deserves more complexity for this price. Drink now-2014.

Strike two rocks together and you’ll get the initial scent of this wine. Then think of subtle red fruits, vibrant wild strawberry refined into a pale white wine. It lasts with the flavors of honeycomb and lemon zest, more of a delicious food than a liquid refreshment. Harmonious, clean and soft, this has the effortless balance to enjoy now, and it will age with grace.

The 2009 Lusco Albarino was fermented in stainless and aged sur lie for 6 months. The reticent aromatics display notes of mineral, citrus, spring flowers, and baking spices leading to a crisp, concentrated, nicely proportioned offering that will provide enjoyment over the next 4 years.

Very clean and clear, and even though it’s a 2009 it is still holding onto its core freshness and character. White fruits and flower blossoms work the nose, and the palate is now fully mature, elegant and smooth. Flavors of peach, melon and kiwi are clean and tasty. Albarino at its best.

Wine & Spirits - 92 pts - Year's Best

This estate-grown albariño contrasts fresh apple flavors with toasted sesame scents. There’s a full, creamy feel to the wine, yet it manages to stay taut all the way through, lasting on vanilla, cedar and smoky mineral scents. Finely made in a broad, modern style, this will match gingery grilled salmon.
