Ruca Malen Malbec Reserva

On the nose, Ruca Malen Malbec Reserve shows red and black fruit reminiscent of cherries and plums and violet aromas. It is a complex, elegant wine, layered with concentrated, juicy flavors and sweet, velvety tannins. An edge of acidity keeps it fresh through the long finish. One year of aging takes place in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels of first and second use.

Red-ruby.  Aromas of blackberry, spices, vanilla and menthol are enlivened by notes of herbs and pepper.  Juicy, moderately dense and sweet, with a light touch to its straightforward flavors of medicinal dark fruits, licorice and menthol.

A big-shouldered red, with plenty of muscle behind the well-structured dark plum, blackberry and tobacco leaf flavors. Creamy midpalate, featuring a dense core of mushroom and savory herbal notes. Finishes with plenty of grip. Drink now through 2020. 2,000 cases imported.

Cherry, dark berry and plum aromas are perfectly solid, with firm tannins and grip. The flavor profile consists of dark fruit, coffee and mint.

Dark spice and game notes mark this rich red, which expands with hints of kirsch, cassis and plum compote in the slightly grippy finish. Drink now.

The 2008 Malbec Reserva spent 10-12 months in seasoned French and American oak. It displays notions of spice box, lavender, and black cherry, setting the stage for a moderately concentrated, savory, forward Malbec that is meant to be drunk over the next 5-6 years.

Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, bitter chocolate, pepper and spices on the nose. Pliant, sweet and light on its feet, with a round, tactile mouth feel to the flavors of berries, spices and herbs. Plusher than the Yauquen, and broader and sweeter on the finish, avoiding the greenness of the 2008 Yauquen bottling.

Light and pleasingly ripe in its flavors, this wine has fruit that’s a touch candied as it glides along the palate. Ready to drink with aged Manchego.

The purple-colored 2007 Malbec has a perfume of smoke, violets, black cherry, and plum. Supple and smooth-textured, it has attractive flavors but could use more depth and concentration. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Meaty, dense and rich aromas, with driving scents of prune, licorice, blackberry and cola. The palate is healthy and rich, and it jeeps in step with flavors of blackberry, dark plum and savory spice. Finishes lightly roasted and dark, with a saucy aftertaste that separates it from the masses. A lusty Malbec to drink now.
