Perenzo

Made “for Enzo,” the proprietor’s father, Perenzo bears his name and favorite color on the label.  The dark fruit is accented by peppery notes.  Baking spices and licorice complement these aromas to create a harmonious bouquet.  An opulent wine with a long polished finish marked by fine, elegant tannins.  Aged in new, medium-toasted French oak barrels for 14-18 months and cellared for 6 months in bottle prior to release.

James Suckling - 92 pts

“This shows tension and structure with blackcurrant, dried-mushroom and hints of coffee-bean aromas. Full body with chewy tannins but polished and succulent. Needs a year or two to soften but illustrates excellent potential: Try in 2016.”

Wine Enthusiast - 89 pts

This round, structured Syrah opens with aromas of ripe black fruit, tilled soil and ground black pepper. The palate shows mature blackberry and raspberry together with notes of spice and clove. Velvety tannins provide the framework.

Vinous - 88 pts

…dark, powerful wine. Blackberry jam, herbs, spice and menthol abound. There is plenty of richness in the glass, but not as much varietal nuance or complexity as I had hoped.

A. Galloni, October 2015

Vinous - 89 pts

Wild, balsamic aromas of strawberry, musky coffee and aromatic herbs. Supple on entry, then less sweet in the middle, with strong vinosity and fine tannins nicely supporting the ripe fruit. Bright acidity provides noteworthy lift to the persistent finish.

I. D'Agata, December 2014

Vinous - 92 pts

The 2010 Perenzo (Syrah) wraps around the palate with expressive dark blue/black fruit, violets, licorice and menthol. A juicy, expressive wine, the 2010 is best enjoyed over the next few years, while the flavors remain vibrant. A core of intense minerality gives the 2010 much of its precision. Hints of white flowers and crushed rocks also add and element of brightness that is highly appealing. Regional expression dominates over more typical varietal notes in this beautiful version of Perenzo.

A. Galloni, August 2013

2008

Wine Advocate - 91 pts

Sweet dark blueberries, blackberries, menthol, pine and flowers meld together in this mid-weight Syrah. Although a touch lithe through the mid-palate, the Perenzo compensates with a beautifully articulated, long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.

A. Galloni, October 2010
