Tombú Prieto Picudo Rosado

From the Bable language, spoken by a small population in parts of northern Spain, meaning gently rolling bill, referencing where the vines grow, Tombu is a fresh approach to Prieto Picudo. The label depicts typical flowers that grow amongst the grains, the primary crop of the region. The lovely raspberry color immediately connotes the sensation of freshness. Aromas and flavors of tart red fruits, particularly berries, are bright. Crisp on the palate with vibrant acidity, this rose has body and structure and an elegant finish that lingers. Vinified entirely in stainless steel, this wine is best young. Pair with equally fresh dishes, including a wide array of salads, seafood, and simple preparations of poultry.

The is rose in color only. In flavor, it’s all red, the fruit delicious in its pure, juicy freshness. It’s the type of wine to drink on vacation, opening as many bottles as you like without worrying about its 14.5 degrees of alcohol- which doesn’t show at all. It’s addictive.

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 88

(all stainless steel): Lurid pink. Pungent aromas of cherry skin, redcurrant and rhubarb, with a white pepper topnote. Dry and tightly wound, offering tangy red fruit flavors and showing a slightly bitter edge. Closes brisk and spicy, with good energy and cut. On the uncompromising side but not at all lacking for flavor.

Wine Advocate - 89

The 2010 Tombu, a cuvee of 100% Prieto Picudo, is medium pink in color with a fragrant bouquet of strawberry and rhubarb. Lively acidity, intense flavors, and a lengthy finish complete this first-class Rose, an excellent value for drinking over the next 12-18 months.

Wine Spectator - 89

A neon purple-pink color gives this wine pizzazz, but on the palate it’s more conventional – dry, structured and balanced, with firm acidity carrying vivid berry and cherry flavors. Plenty big enough for food.  Drink now through 2014.
