Peach and yeast aromas are mostly fresh. This Xarello has a citrus-like palate with the suggestion of spritz. Melon, green banana and papaya flavors finish with mild pithy bitterness but nothing off-putting.

Bright straw. Lemon zest, chalk and white flowers on the nose and palate. Racy and precise if a bit tart, with good finishing cut and clarity.

The 2011 Xa Xarello, from 53-year-old vines in the Ordal Mountain area, receives a five-day skin contact and no oak aging. It has a clean, resinous bouquet with touches of pine. The palate is well-balanced, simple but clean, with fresh dried apricot, lemongrass and citrus lemon notes that lead to a harmonious, crisp waxy finish. This represents fine value. Drink now.

The 2010 Xarel-lo Classic displays notes of mineral, baking spices, spring flowers, and melon. Vibrant and refreshing on the palate, in the glass, lime and apple elements make an appearance leading to a seamless finish. Drink it over the next 12-18 months. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 88 pts

Light yellow-gold. Citrus, pit fruits and herbs on the nose, lifted by honeysuckle and ginger topnotes. Spicy and focused, with subtle aromatic lift to the racy flavors of lemon zest, nectarine and dusty minerals. At once tactile and silky, displaying good racy cut and clarity. Finishes with refreshing verve and a slight dryness, the lemon note repeating.

Youthful citrus, herb and apple fruit. Light and refreshing with good balance. Great value.

2009 Wine Awards

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - 89 pts

Bright yellow. Musky lemon pith and herbal aromas are complemented by honeycomb and jasmine. More complex (or simply more evolved) than the 2009, with gently sweet citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a hint of fresh fig. Finishes with good spicy lift and a touch of white pepper. This will be very flexible at the table.
